this is my first blog post, I'm thinkiing about my parents and Big Data.
My mother died of a brain tumor in 2007. It went undiagnosed for 3 months - despite 3 trips to the doctors. This was in the early days of Google, and neither of my parents were big computer users anyway, my dad was 62 at the time.
The doctor said on each appointment it was a "virus" she was 59 at the time, and died two months after her 60th birthday.
The first I knew there was something wrong was when I read a phonetically spelt short email she'd sent me from work, lived in Sydney at the time and we used to email each other once a week with family updates.
